How E-40 Became Co-Owner of The Lumpia Company

Does E-40 like lumpia? Yup — so much so that the East Bay rap legend is now an investor and co-owner of a growing Filipino food business, the Lumpia Company, which specializes in the fried Filipino spring rolls he loves.

“Being from Vallejo, California, my surroundings was all walks of life, very diverse,” says E-40, whose given name is Earl Stevens. “Filipinos were a big part of Vallejo’s community... some of my best friends was Filipino. I ate lumpia with the kids I grew up around, and it became one of my favorite dishes of all time.”

So when the popular, SF-raised DJ E-Rock introduced Stevens to his friend Alex Retodo, a food entrepreneur who founded the Lumpia company in 2015, they had lots to talk about. Retodo sent a sample of his lumpia to Stevens, “and history was made,” Stevens says.

The Golden State Warriors star was inspired by a meeting with Howard senior and golfer Otis Ferguson IV during a campus visit earlier this year. Curry came to Howard for a screening of his documentary film, Emanuel, in January.

$400M Premium Outlet Mall Coming to Carson in 2021

$400 million outlet mall at the confluence of the 405 and 110 freeways on a former landfill will transform Carson into a regional retail destination, municipal officials predicted Tuesday, Aug. 13, at a ceremonial groundbreaking for the much-anticipated Los Angeles Premium Outlets.

Despite the event, work is already under way on the 46-acre site, which is expected to provide 1,700 construction jobs and 1,800 permanent ones when complete, city officials said.

This news is incredible because I lived in Carson for 10 years of my life and it was notorious for the “Carson Hallway” during that time. This is a perfect location for a new outlet because now people won’t have to travel to Citadel, Ontario Palm Springs or Camarillo. I just hope we get some new restaurants in the city to accompany the new retail stores.
